A guide to shortcodes

Written by Sophie

What are shortcodes?

Shortcodes are numbers (usually between 3 and 6 digits), that you can call or text to access certain services. These services are often not included in your allowance, so they may cost extra.

You might use a shortcode to:

  • Enter TV competitions

  • Vote on reality shows

  • Make charity donations

  • Send messages to radio stations

  • Subscribe to alerts, content or promotions

How you’re charged

If you use a chargeable shortcode, the cost is taken from your Superdrug Mobile balance (some shortcodes are free and come out of your allowance).

Check the cost

Use our shortcode checker to find out how much a shortcode will cost before you use it:

Using chargeable shortcodes

If a shortcode is chargeable, you'll need to purchase a cash add-on:

Standard network charge

As well as the cost of the shortcode itself, you’ll also pay a standard network charge for sending the message.

This is the cost of the text message and will be shown in our shortcode checker.

Example

If a shortcode costs £2.50 and the standard network charge is 15p, the total cost will be £2.65.
